July 14, 2000 - Fedhealth and the SIDS Alliance team up to promote safety awareness

Fedhealth and the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Alliance are combining efforts to educate the public on safety and preparedness that involves the entire family.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a medical disorder, which claims the lives of thousands of young children one day to one year of age. Both Fedhealth and the SIDS Alliance want the public to recognize that SIDS can strike without warning and affects families of all races and income levels just like an emergency or disaster.

"Fedhealth has taken a leadership role in the national promotion of SIDS awareness," said Kendra Davenport, Vice President of Development of the SIDS Alliance. "Through the sales of Fedhealth books, the Alliance, our Affiliates and everyone who buys or reads one of them benefits. It truly is a win-win effort!"

According to Bill Liebsch, President and founder of Fedhealth, the key is education so people understand what can be done to reduce risks during any type of life situation. "We are trying to help the public become more proactive and learn how to take personal responsibility to ‘be aware, be prepared and have a plan’ -- whether it’s knowing what to do for the safety of your newborn baby or your entire family," said Liebsch. "We also hope to heighten awareness about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome through this new nonprofit fundraising program."

Fedhealth’s first book called "IT’S A DISASTER! …and what are YOU gonna do about it?" helps individuals and families prepare for many types of emergencies and natural or man-made disasters before they strike. The book is designed to help families examine how best to react in any emergency situation, and prepare each family member to participate effectively. The book includes special sections that specifically address the unique needs of infants, disabled, and elderly family members.

Two pages in the front of the book are devoted to spreading SIDS awareness by "Advancing Infant Safety and Survival Across America". Fedhealth is generously contributing between 5% - 55% of every sale of this book to the SIDS Alliance and their local Affiliates through a variety of related Fedhealth fundraising programs.

The SIDS Alliance is a national, not-for-profit voluntary health organization dedicated to the support of SIDS families, education and research. For more information about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome please visit www.sidsalliance.org or call 1-800-221-SIDS.
